When the Mob try to purchase a luxury, big five game reserve, right next to an international border in South Africa, all hell breaks loose!
A kidnapping, to menace the owners of the reserve to sell, becomes the catalyst in a host of actions and re-actions leading to unexpected alliances, coupled with violence, murder and confrontations with lions, elephants and crocodiles in the wild.
This interspersed with investigations into the illegal poaching of rhinos and elephants and the smuggling of animal products out of the country. Add to this the emergence of illicit diamond buying and smuggling, the tracking of escaped prisoners, and the parry and thrust of a high stakes courtroom drama, and you have a real page-turner you wont be able to put down.
The action is high octane, keeping the story moving quickly with changing scenes as Jack Delaney follows the clues and investigates the latest exciting mystery !!!
Excerpt from THE HANGING TREE - Book 6 in the Jack Delaney Chronicles
From CHAPTER 19
It watched feelinglessly and emotionlessly as the terrified man-creature scrambled, unsuccessfully, to climb higher up the mound. Feelinglessly and emotionlessly, simply because the animal could never understand such things as feelings and emotions. Crocodiles didnt need them. All they needed was to eat. Even protecting their young hatchlings at birth had nothing to do with feelings or emotions; it was pure instinct.
It needed to eat. And here now was something to eat. It was really that simple. To survive it had to eat and its prehistoric ancestry proved just how successful the species had been in doing just that.
Cautiously and slowly the monster flicked its tail to bring it ever closer to the mound, or island as the humans called it, then paused again as it watched the creature scramble in a frantic attempt to get higher up and out of the monsters reach. Realizing that the potential meal could get no higher and knowing that there was no way off the mound but back into the water, its own element, the oversized lizard relentlessly crawled forward so that the its head now lay on the edge of the mound out of the water, a mere meter or two from Mos unprotected feet.
Mo knew that there was nothing he could do to escape the creeping death, except pray, so pray he did.
