Danny McAlister and Mad Monty are on the run once more. They find themselves working for General Claire Chennaults China Air Transport only to be dragged into the last throes of the Chinese Civil War and then onto Korea where Danny learns first-hand the horrors of battle. But far worse is yet to come.
After the Korean cease-fire, General Chennault assigns Danny to Vietnam where he rejoins his old flame, med-student, Angela Holyman. Unwittingly Danny and Angela are thrown into the desperate, bloody climax of the siege at Dien Bien Phu.

Chapter 3 Getaway Trail
At least the bastards didnt get my guitars. Those two goons are probably toast by now, Monty yelled over the Morgans engine that he revved well beyond its specifications. He seemed far too cheerful in Dannys view, but theyd made it clear away ... or had they?
Crazy Al had shown scant concern for his henchmen when he set Montys shack alight. In fact hed probably made matters worse. Ramrod and Crowbar were more than capable of dealing with Danny and Monty even if they took their own sweet time about it. The smoke and flames had only hampered them, enabling their victims to escape. But Crazy Al wasnt called Crazy for nothing.
As the roof crashed down, Als two heavies raced from the shed, beating out the flames that flared on their clothing. They both dashed down the beach and dived into the lagoon. Fortunately the flames hadnt taken hold and neither man was badly burnt. Al employed tough guys anyway and a spot of minor singeing shouldnt slow them down in his opinion. Al considered his goons were simply human resources, not people.
Smoke screened Monty and Danny as they bolted for their car. At first Al wasnt sure whether theyd been consumed in the fire and neither Crowbar nor Ramrod could confirm that important detail one way or the other. Al ranted for his men to stop being sissies and get out of the water.
He chivvied them back to his car parked a hundred yards from the hut.
Hed ordered Ramrod, who was his driver, to stop far enough away from the hut so Danny and Monty wouldnt hear them arrive. As they lumbered towards their vehicle, Al noticed Montys three-wheeler was gone. He put two-and-two together in no time.
Although hed never learnt to drive, Al owned an open-top 1938 French Delage Tourer. He loved his car and kept it in pristine condition, which was not an easy task in New Guineas humid tropical climate.
Get after them! Al screamed.
Where, boss? Ramrod asked.
The airport, you fool. Theyll make for their plane.
Ramrod swung the drivers door open and leapt behind the wheel. Crowbar dashed around to the passenger side and he too piled in. The engine roared into life and Ramrod drove away until he realised theyd left Crazy Al behind.
Ramrod dough-nutted the car in a screech of tortured brakes and burning rubber, before returning to where Crazy Al stood in a fury.
You idiots, Al roared as Crowbar bounded out of the car and opened the door for his boss who climbed into the back seat. Al never opened doors for himself, and this was no exception. You didnt keep minders and do your own menial tasks no sir!
Als own brand of protocol would never have allowed his goons to sit on the red-leather seats in their ragged, sea-drenched clothing, but in this case he had to prioritise.
