Follow Martha on her airborne quest for adventure where things dont always go as planned. Adventures which lead her to new places and new relationships.
Hannahs village is terrorised by a dragon. But what can the people do? How do they fight against a dragon? Hannah decides something has to be done and sets off on a quest to confront the dragon with surprising consequences.
Abela has published these two books which shows girls and young women that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. You only have to look at the feats of Amelia Earhart, Amy Johnson, Jean Batten and Nancy Bird Walton, all pioneering Aviatrixes in the early part of the 20th C. proving that the myth about flying and engineering being a male domain was firmly debunked by these pioneering woman in the 1920s and 30s.
Hannah follows in the footsteps Joan of Arc, Boudicca, Zenobia (Queen of Palmyria), Tamar (Queen of Georgia), Amelia Pankhurst and the Suffragettes and the over 500 women who, through the ages, have stepped in to lead armies and causes, furthering womens rights and protecting all they hold dear.
Excerpt from MARTHA THE AERONAUT and HANNAH MEETS A DRAGON - 2 Book Set
ONE DAY Martha returned to her hometown and bought a disused factory full of what you and I would probably call dusty junk. However, to Martha it was a gold mine. At first Martha spent her weekends in the factory and taught at the university during the week. But soon she was teaching less and spending more time at the factory.
In time she quit teaching and locked herself in the factory. She stayed there for months. Her only visitor was a hired labourer. The townsfolk grew curious as bangs and rattles were heard from inside, while smoke rose from the chimney. Martha told people she was inventing, but refused to say what.
The children no longer played in the square, where they used to romp with their pets or kick a football. Sometimes theyd sung and made flower garlands for their hair. Someone has to slay the dragon and free us from this menace, he announced. He put a shiny sword on the big rock in the village square. Is anyone brave enough to take this sword and go up to the dragons cave and slay him while he sleeps? he asked. But sadly, no one had the courage.
Hannah was a pretty girl who lived with her parents in one of the beautiful cottages at the center of the village, close to the big rock where the sword lay. Whenever Hannah was afraid, she climbed onto her fathers lap. He would put his safe arms around her, hug her tightly and kiss the top of her head and say "Hannah, fear only lasts while you try to run from it, hed say. If you turn and face your fear, it will seem to shrink. Once you do that, fear will no longer have a hold over you." And so based with her fathers words in her heart, Hannah decides to take action against the deadly dragon that is terrorising her village.
